dc.description.abstractThe main objective of this dissertation was to identify the current concerns of user studies research in the field of LIS in terms of the themes covered, the methodologies utilised, the social role of the persons investigated and the theoretical framework adopted. The current profile thus obtained was then used to determine whether past research trends have continued to exist and the progress made in user studies research. The value of this research is in the drawing out of useful models, theoretical concepts and research instruments and the development of content analysis categories applicable to user studies researchen_US
