Abstract: Singapore has one of the most respected transport systems in the world. Inexpensive and high-quality train and bus services, minimal road congestion, and widely available taxi and ridesharing services make it one of the most affordable cities to move around in the world. Traffic delays are a big issue affecting a vast number of large cities worldwide. Much time and money have been spent alleviating traffic congestion, but only a few scenarios have been compelling. There are many explanations for this, but mainly because travel demand is not being fulfilled or handled and the supply and transport demand is not balanced. Given the rapid growth in the economy, population, and mobilization, Singapore has effectively maintained a comprehensive road transport infrastructure. Singapore must pay careful attention to handling an increase in travel demand, constrained by limited land space. The following paper discusses the experiences of Singapore in the management of congestion in a city. Firstly, it explains the essence of congestion, addresses the root factors, and briefly explores the solutions to mitigate congestion in the widely accepted context.
