Abstract: This thesis is a study of the concept of Islamic banking through the theoretical lenses of ideology and utopia. It seeks to examine the ideas behind the motivations of Islamic banking, and to see who and what it serves in the broader society. It accept as a maxim that theory is always for someone for some purpose, and attempts to see the broader implication this has on how efforts to promote Islamic banking in Singapore can be bolstered.
