Title: | Exploration of operating speed environment to calm traffic in urban areas | Authors: | Shankari Balakrishnan | Keywords: | Engineering::Civil engineering::Transportation | Issue Date: | 2020 | Publisher: | Nanyang Technological University | Abstract: | In a small city, where land is scarce, there is limited room for road expansion. Road traffic volume has to be kept at a minimum to reduce congestion and for the ease of travellers. Measures are constantly being taken to improve the existing transportation system, to meet public’s increasing expectations and needs. With Singapore’s move towards becoming a “car-lite” nation, several initiatives such as park connectors and cycling paths are slowly coming up to encourage the residents to cycle more. Despite this, residents are not choosing cycling as an alternative transportation mode as Singapore roads are not ready to welcome cyclists. This project will look into the reasons why the current operating speed in urban areas of Singapore is unsafe for vulnerable road users, and why it is necessary to review them in order to attain liveable streets. | URI: | https://hdl.handle.net/10356/145075 | Schools: | School of Civil and Environmental Engineering | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
