Title: | Characterization of photobacteria from conductive biosystem | Authors: | Surya Maitri Wijaya | Keywords: | Engineering::Environmental engineering | Issue Date: | 2020 | Publisher: | Nanyang Technological University | Project: | EN-78 | Abstract: | Nutrient scarcity is a vital issue along with social development, where population growth and increasing living standard results in increased nutrient demand. Moreover, unsustainable usage of nutrient will exacerbate the nutrient shortage in the future. Therefore, there is a need to find solutions to secure future nutrient supply. Among the solutions, one sustainable approach is through wastewater nutrient recovery. Wastewater has become a reliable nutrient source due to nutrient abundance. Among the nutrient, the recovery of C, N, and P is crucial as it is the essential macronutrient that significantly influence on the growth of living things. Purple Photobacteria (PPB), a gram-negative proteobacteria that available in wastewater, could convert organic compounds into Single Cell Protein (SCP) and enhance the degradation process of wastewater compounds. PPB could enhance the energy yield for wastewater treatment and create a possibility for nutrients recovery. With the absence of sulphate in feast-famine-feast condition, PPB could optimize the assimilation of nutrients into biomass that consists of SCP, Poly-P, glycogen, and other trace substances. PPB (Rhodobacterales sp.) has been introduced as a treatment solution that could recover nutrients. This study is delivered in 3 aspects: verification of the previous study towards PPB, investigation of the optimized PPB conditions in the batch experiment, and characterization of PPB in the conductive biosystem. | URI: | https://hdl.handle.net/10356/145159 | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
