Abstract: Sector division design is an important part of airspace planning. For multi-airport area, due to its complex airspace structure and dense airport layout, its sector division is particularly complicated. The research of sector classification method is of great significance to increase airspace capacity and ensure flight safety. According to the actual situation of China's terminal airspace and the existing problems, this report proposes a high and low sector division method based on air traffic complexity balance based on relevant researches on terminal area sector division. It mainly considers the airspace nature and traffic flow characteristics of the terminal area airspace air route, flight path structure, aircraft flight type and aircraft type that affect the controller's workload,and introduces the basic theories, regulations and principles of the terminal area airspace planning and sector division in detail. Then the definition and generation method of Voronoi diagram are introduced, and the influencing factors and statistical calculation method of air traffic complexity with traffic density as the core are proposed. Taking the sector division of Guangzhou Airport terminal area as an example, Python and Voronoi diagram are used to generate the sector division diagram, so as to realize the optimization of the sector division of Guangzhou Airport terminal area, and verify the validity and feasibility of the sector optimization model and algorithm in this report.
