From the daily practices that one is socialised to at home to the larger overarching social norms, there are a myriad of ways one’s decision on career and education can be swayed or fixed to a particular path. In Singapore, while the meritocracybased education system aims to create a levelled playing field, it glosses over the impacts which SES can have on one’s career and education. Through the activation of social capitals, the family can influence and advantage the individual, increasing their opportunities. This research project aims to study the degree of influence family has on young adults in Singapore. Using semi-structured interviews with young adults in Singapore, this research sheds light on what Singaporean young adults perceive to be significant influences on their decision making in their education and career. | URI: | https://hdl.handle.net/10356/147289 | Schools: | School of Social Sciences | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
