Abstract: This study is an ethnographic portrait of Internet use by Filipino students in Singapore. It examines the patterns of use and motivations of these students of the Internet guided by the Uses and Gratifications Theory. The concept of the ‘active audience’, the main thrust of the uses and gratifications theory which argues that audiences and users make conscious decisions of the different mass media forms.
