Abstract: In recent years, artificial intelligence has become a very popular topic and has been utilised in many aspects of our daily lives such as facial recognition, dialogue generation and autonomous driving. Among these artificial intelligence systems, dialogue system is the topic that we are going to discuss in this project. Dialogue system is a computer system that allows human-computer interaction by accepting a human utterance as input and replies an appropriate system response in natural language as output based on the input. In general, dialogue system can be categorised into 2 types, chit-chat dialogue system and task-oriented dialogue system. In this project we will discuss the current implementation of the two types of systems and explore the possibilities of combing the chit-chat dialogue system and task-oriented dialogue system into a single fusion model using pipelined architecture. Finally, we will compare the accuracy of the fusion model with chit-chat dialogue system and task-oriented dialogue system.
