Automated lab attendance management system for SCSE

Abstract

Registering for attendance in education environments especially in laboratories of the School of Computer Science and Engineering (SCSE) building is a laborious task. This manual attendance taking involved signing on a sheet of paper with records manually entered a system. This process resulted in loopholes where students circumvented the system through buddy punching. In this, an automated lab attendance system is proposed utilising Near Field Communications (NFC) by a simple tap with a mobile device. NFC is an emerging short-range wireless communication that has been a staple in services such as commerce and identification.
