Abstract: The aim of this project is to create a product that is able to detect rain and send a notification to the mobile application in order to notify the user when rain has occurred. Different types of water sensors were tested with regards to their reliability, durability, and ease of use. The final sensor selected was a capacitance sensor as it was the most suitable fit for this project. Two different cloud providers were also tested in terms of reliability and their user interface. “Blynk” was selected as it was more reliable, and it is very user friendly. Different microcontrollers were considered for this project and the Arduino MKR 1010 Wi-Fi was selected as it has all the technical specifications needed for this project. The project was completed by integrating the sensor, microcontroller, and mobile application together.
