Master's thesis, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. https://hdl.handle.net/10356/149543 | Abstract: | The key objective of work presented here is to design a modern electric motor for small Electric Vehicles. Small Electric Vehicles, such as electric bike, electric motor or low powered passenger vehicles are highly suitable for any environment. An electric motor of high-speed installed in association with the mechanical gear is a classic arrangement for electric vehicles. But this arrangement has drawbacks in terms of friction and windage losses and also the size is bulky due to the presence of gears. So, an electric motor with direct drive train can be an alternate way for this. Since the gears are eliminated the motor must induce the torque directly into the vehicle wheel shaft. As a result, the motor shows the tendency to increase the size and weight. For an in-wheel mounting, the size and weight of the motor should be low. This dissertation work is focused on Flux-Switch Permanent Magnet motor considering its favourable characteristics of efficiency, high torque and robustness of its rotor. It has advantages of both Permanent Magnet Synchronous motor as well as Switched Reluctance Motor. In this project, a FSPM motor with 12/10 pole is considered. This work involves the design of FSPM motor with 12/10 pole using JMAG simulation software. Various performance parameters of the motor have been analysed at no-load and loading conditions. The optimization analysis is also performed which gives the most optimal point of performance of the FSPM motor. Further, the performance parameters of this FSPM motor is compared with 12/11 pole and 12/14 pole FSPM motors. | URI: | https://hdl.handle.net/10356/149543 | Schools: | School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
