Abstract: In this Final Year Project (FYP) the student aims to investigate on how additive manufactured high nitrogen steel (HNS) properties and composition of the microstructure affects the corrosion resistance rate of the metal and find factors to help improve on the standards for manufacturing N Steel powders for the Additive Manufacturing (AM) industry. In this study the student will be searching for suitable experimental methods to test the corrosion rate of AM HNS metal and analyze it against other stainless steels that are already at a highly stable and matured development stage where it is already commercially commonly used in the engineering industry. This report will consist information on experimental results, the of preparation steps to set up the experiments and lastly the process and progress of the experiments. The main purpose of these experiments is to put the different types of stainless steels through harsh corrosive environment in order to help encourage the growth of corrosion at a faster rate of the usual pace of corrosion the steels would usually go through. The overall objective is to understand how to better design the specifications for AM HNS powder composition as it in an experimental adjustment state. Thus, corrosion results from the AM HNS will act as a reference in adjusting the composition of the powder to help achieve a more mature state of corrosion resistivity. As of the current period in this report, there are no literature writings about AM HNS powders as it is still at the pioneering stage of growth. However, there are reports relevant to conventional HNS research that will be used as a reference. In this study we will be using commercially made conventional Stainless Steel 316, AM Stainless Steel 316, AM HNS along with some other relevant researched data for the report.
