dc.description.abstractIn this digital age, the internet-of-things (IoT) currently possess immense growth potential. The number of IoT devices worldwide is projected to have a 292% increase, from 8.74 billion in 2019 to 25.4 billion in 2030 [1]. With the advent of technology, every IoT device today has its own compatible operating systems (OS) such as Windows and Linux. The OS is the core program of every IoT project today and it utilises cloud computing technology to control IoT devices across the globe. In today’s interconnected world, devices with the different or incompatible OS are unable to establish a connection and thus they are unable to communicate with one another. Hence, this prompts research in IoT gateways to bridge the communication gap between different hardware devices in the modern world. This study explores the development and use of an IoT gateway using hardware boards like the Raspberry Pi 4. The IoT gateway will be able to enable communication between hardware devices with different operating systems like Windows and Linux, through the use of Light Fidelity (Li-Fi) communication. A Li-Fi device and an Augmented/Virtual Reality (AR/VR) device will be used to test the IoT gateway via Li-Fi communication. The development process for this project is carried out in three main phases; installation and testing of operating systems, installation of device drivers and testing of the IoT gateway using Li-Fi communication.en_US
