Abstract: Living in a multiracial and multicultural country, Malaysian Chinese have to adjust their “Chineseness” all the times to adapt the Chinese and non-Chinese in different states. Therefore, time and space becomes the main reason affecting the “Chineseness”. As Diaspora and transnational movements become more developed, “Chineseness” in Malaysia has changed dramatically. On the other hand, Culture is a society practice in habits, races and non-systematical while weddings are an important process of enculturation for two families. So, we can examine the type of “Chineseness: and the identity of Chinese by analysing Chinese weddings. This thesis will investigate the thoughts of 20 to 80 year-old Muar Chinese and use spaces and time to analysis the changes of the “Chineseness” and Chinese identity in 1930’s to 2000’s in Muar.
