dc.description.abstract | In modern medicine, more electronic devices are being placed in the human body in order to extend their lifespan. Such devices are usually implanted in the body and there are no ways to reach the device until years later, where an operation is required to retrieve the device out of the body. As such, those devices often operate on batteries. In order for the device to operate for a long term, the device’s main component and its supporting components need to operate in low-voltage conditions. Apart from low voltage operation, the device will also need to be able to generate its own clock so that it can provide the required clock frequency to the entire device. The clock needs to be stable and provide consistent performance across changes in voltage and temperature. In this project, a low voltage crystal-less oscillator design is proposed for use in such medical devices. The oscillator was designed using GLOBALFOUNDRIES 55nm process development kit and it will be operating with a frequency of 30MHz at 1.2V supply voltage, but with a change of components values, higher or lower frequencies can be achieved. The design also performs consistently across a range of temperatures from -40 to 120°C. | en_US |
