This paper is based on the relationship of Singapore women’s changing status and women’s organizations in Singapore from the 1950s to the present. This paper will also cover different important backgrounds of Singapore that were related to the changing status of Singaporean women and explore women’s organizations that once existed and those that are still in operation in Singapore today. There are five chapters in this paper which includes the introduction, followed by three chapters which will recount the establishment of the women’s organizations in Singapore that will be discussed in this paper. The final chapter will be a detailed analysis of improvements in Singapore’s women's social status and their changes in life which were brought about by the women's organizations in Singapore. Besides the establishment of the women’s organizations in Singapore, this paper will also present the organizations’ missions and values and most importantly the efforts that these organizations made, resulting in a constant improvement of the status of women in Singapore from the 1950s to the present. Although from the 1950s till now, the status of women in Singapore has been improving constantly, but in the 1970s, the improvement of women’s status is not as significant as compared to the past 20 years and from the 1980s and beyond. It was only in 1980 when the Singapore Council of Women’s Organizations was established that encouraged Singaporean women to be more proactive once again in fighting for their own rights to improve their status further. At the end of this paper, when we look back to the lives and statuses of Singaporean women fifty years ago as compared to now, we will be able to notice a distinct progression and improvement of Singaporean women’s lives and statuses.
