Abstract: Renewable storage has been increasingly important over the years, in that it helps to maintain the supply and demand to ensure reliability, resilience, and flexibility to use electricity. The efficiency of the energy system has also been dependent on the types of converters used. As an efficient system, it is very important to achieve high efficiency throughout the power conversion process. Not only that, but it also saved operational costs in powering the power systems. However, the major issues it faced are the lack of production at periods of peak energy demand. Besides, the creation of energy such as wind and solar, have been dependent on the source due to different environmental conditions. Therefore, there has been paramount importance of the Battery Energy Storage System as a clean and renewable storage solution as it reduces the dependence on conventional sources of power such as coal, natural gas, and oil. Due to its utmost importance and popularity, various methods, and circuit topologies for battery energy storage systems in a Bi-Directional DC-DC power converter were discussed and proposed to achieve greater economies of scale, more savings, as well as to harness the clean future technology to revolutionize our lives. A four-switch buck-boost bi-directional DC-DC converter was proposed, which focuses on the prototyping of this 4-switch buck-boost converter for battery applications by using the CC-CV algorithm. Experimental results were presented to illustrate the validation of the multi-mode 4 switch dc-dc converters to have their performance evaluated based on the test report under various operating conditions in an open-loop control implemented in PLECS Software. The results from the experiment were also compared with the analytical results acquired from MATLAB.
