dc.description.abstract | The study of hydrophobicity and superhydrophobicity has been an interesting topic for researchers around the world. Studies conducted have provided us with an in-depth knowledge on how a sessile water droplet would be repel from a hydrophobic surface, allows scientists and engineers to develop multiple beneficial applications, such as, anti-icing for the aviation industry and on above-ground power transmission lines. This project aims to observe, determine, and analyse the dynamic effects of a micropillar pattern on a superhydrophobic silicon wafer. This will be done by dropping a deionized water droplet from different positions (height and radius), onto the silicon wafer. It will be observed that the micropillar patterns break the water droplet into smaller droplets, while preventing it from immediately adhering onto the silicon wafer. The result will then be compared to a control experiment that uses a non-patterned superhydrophobic silicon plate. | en_US |
