Abstract: Chattering is one form of unwanted by-products caused by machine vibrations. The purpose of this project is to understand the use of Receptance Coupling Substructure Analysis (RCSA). RCSA couples the blank and toolholder’s Frequency Response Functions (FRF), which allows an easier way to derive the system’s entire FRF, than to do a summation of each and every tool attached to the system. Finite Element Method (FEM) is extensively utilised to derive at the necessary calculations to complete the RCSA. Therefore, the usage of ANSYS and SolidWorks software has provided a better visualisation of how the different frequencies and mode shapes affect the tool-life. The software gives the natural frequencies which are avoided, thence the tool-life would be extended when such unwanted vibrations is averted.
