Final Year Project (FYP), Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. https://hdl.handle.net/10356/150857 | Abstract: | This thesis seeks to analyse interfacial arrangements that arise from different unique experimental conditions. This study has shown how the surface arrangements of iron (Fe) can be predicted using the KMC simulation method. Whilst each type of steel has its own level of corrosion resistance, corrosion is still inevitable.Dealloying, a specific kind of corrosion, causes widespread damage and even mechanical failures in specific alloys.the dealloying process is highly related to the quality of the surface structure of the alloy metal.By controlling the surface or interfacial arrangements of the steel, these damages can be monitored, and failures can be reduced. The simulations in this work have shown that the multiple surface morphologies can be predicted by simply altering the values related to the different commands found within the SPPARKS software. With this study, a foundation work on predicting arrangements of alloying elements in steel surfaces can be determined to an acceptable extent. Further possible work has also been identified in this thesis. | URI: | https://hdl.handle.net/10356/150857 | Schools: | School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
