Abstract: In the course of researching citation patterns, author affiliation, and research content of Australian journals of librarianship through the application of bibliometric research methods, broader issues relevant to the research topic were examined. Although written with a particular purpose in mind, the following review stands alone as a discussion of the nature of journals of librarianship and aspects of the literature which should be the subject of concern to all members of the discipline.
