Master's thesis, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. https://hdl.handle.net/10356/152660 | Abstract: | Over the past few years, leaky wave antennas (LWAs) based on periodic CRLH unit cells have attracted great research interest with its unique beam steering capability. This project is aimed at designing a reconfigurable material based LWA with low power consumption. Firstly, a wideband compact LWA based on composite right/left-handed (CRLH) unit cells is proposed for fifth generation (5G) millimeter wave applications. The antenna involves of fifteen CRLH unit cells with metallic vias and microstrip transitions. It achieves a -60° to +60° beam scanning within the frequency range from 24 GHz to 32 GHz with uniform gain around 8 dBi. Then, a LC-based reconfigurable LWA is proposed for beam steering at a fixed frequency with variation of liquid crystal (LC). It utilizes twenty multi-layered CRLH unit cells with LC to obtain a 11° beam scanning angle at 27.5 GHz with a realized gain of 10 dBi. | URI: | https://hdl.handle.net/10356/152660 | Schools: | School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
