Abstract: Recently, single-wall CNT (carbon nanotubes) have been used as novel active electrode material in the supercapacitor and battery applications due to its high electronic conductivity, chemical and electrochemical stability and high surface area. In this project, Ag nanoparticles have been decorated on the single-wall CNT’s surface to optimize the performance of single-wall CNT in the supercapacitor application. In this report, a method to synthesize uniform and highly dispersed silver nanoparticles on SWCNTs by a simple deposition-precipritation process employing AgNO3 and NaOH at room temperature without recourse to CNT surface modification. The effects of PH value, AgNO3 concentration and reaction time in respect to the Ag nanoparticle size have been investigated. The morphology of Ag particles are characterized by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). In addition, two devices to compare effect of silver decoration on supercapacitor device performance have been assembled using pure P3 SWCNT and Ag decorated SWCNT. Device with Ag decorated SWCNT showed better performance in terms of higher capacitance, higher power density, lower internal resistance as compared with the one with P3 SWCNT.
