Abstract: This research project is the first extensive study of plays depicting health and sickness in Singapore. Through a close examination of Singaporean illness plays depicting human immunodeficiency virus and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS), mental health conditions (MHCs), stroke and pain, this project highlights the performative dimension of illness that is not always recognized in biomedical practice.
