dc.description.abstract | Antenna arrays are an important component of radar systems. Over the years, the increasing adoption of digital signal processing has spurred the development of unconventional array processing techniques. In this thesis, two unconventional topics are investigated. The first is the Infinite Impulse Response (IIR) array, a structure which has been established, but its properties are not well explored. A novel application of the structure to Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is introduced. Analysis on two real datasets suggests that the IIR array can significantly reduce computational power requirements. The second is a novel technique that combines signals from multiple frequencies coherently to form a Multi-Frequency Virtual Array (MFVA). The MFVA has a range-varying beampattern, but also has increased sensitivity to phase errors, brought about when the signal has bandwidth. However, phase modulated signals are shown to be fairly robust against this issue. Finally, some considerations for practical applications are briefly discussed. | en_US |
