Abstract: Perovskite Solar Cells have gathered large amounts of interest due to their potential in producing green sustainable energy through photovoltaic technologies. The perovskite is a material with a chemical structure of ABX3 and can be produced at a low manufacturing cost through different fabrication methods such as spin coating, vapor deposition, electrodeposition, and others. In this report, we will be conducting an experimental investigation on the effects of the fabrication methods on the perovskite degradation. Specifically, we investigate the effects of air exposure on the degradation of the perovskites through Selected Area Electron Diffraction. It was found that air exposure can cause accelerated degradation of the perovskite. 2D perovskites were also electrically stressed to investigate their degradation mechanism. The degradation mechanism during electrical stress for 2D perovskites could be due to ion movement within the perovskite lattice which corresponds with their 3D counterparts. To confirm this conclusion, further studies should include XPS analysis on the 2D perovskite after electrical stressing. Since perovskites are very sensitive to electrons, we also tested a method to obtain HRTEM images through low amounts of electron dose using a signal filter. The filter was able to obtain new unseen features within the image but there was no regularity to the images such that useful characteristics can be discerned from it. Attempts to add more samples of images to the image stack to resolve this were done but still no useful features were able to be discerned. Further studies should be done to combine other filters with this amplitude filter to see if clearer HRTEM images can be obtained.
