Abstract: This report conducts a case study of factory fires and builds a simple one-dimensional mathematical model for investigating factors leading to spontaneous ignition in a pile of sawdust on top of a hot press. The theory of heat conduction will be studied in this report and will be used in the implementation of the model. The model solution will be explored to determine the causes or circumstances that will lead to the ignition of the sawdust. MATLAB will be used to design and solve the one-dimensional mathematical model.
