Abstract: Economic dispatch (ED) is a study on the distribution of power in the system. Solving an Economic dispatch problem helps to achieve the most cost-efficient while fully utilizing the generator and meeting the load demand of the whole system. The traditional method of solving ED problems uses centralized methods; however, for this project, the distributed methods are used to implement the algorithm. The optimization in distributed method occurs at local agents; by creating an algorithm that allows each agent to communicate with the neighbor and iteratively estimate to achieve the optimal solution in a distributed way. In this project, the algorithms are created to attain the total load demand of the system in a distributed manner and by using distributed projected gradient method to achieve the optimal solution in solving the ED problem. In the implementation of the algorithm, both the thermal generator and the wind turbine are taken into account. The algorithm is tested on the 6-bus system and 30-Bus system.
