Abstract: Singapore has one of the most reliable electrical distribution systems in the world, boasting its extremely low disruption frequencies and downtime duration. This effort involves many of the electrical engineers in Singapore to conduct condition monitoring of these electrical equipment and parts to ensure that Singapore maintains its electricity stature. This Final Year Project, titled Cable Health Degradation II aims to study and investigate into phenomena occurrence known as Partial Discharge. As High-Voltage cables used are typically Cross-Linked Polymer (XLPE), they are usually manufactured in factories and there have been instances of which impurities or inconsistencies are found within the insulation material of the cable. The inconsistencies within the cable insulation would give rise to the phenomenon of Partial Discharge which would increase the rate of deterioration of the cable insulation, leading to failure.
