Abstract: The goal of the project is to introduce people to Nanyang Technological University’s (NTU) Yunnan Garden to prospective students and the public by immersing them in a Virtual Reality (VR) experience. By allowing people to view small attractions of the garden through VR, the application might serve to promote NTU to the public and potential students as well. The application I have developed is called the Explore Yunnan Application. This application would focus on giving a virtual tour of Yunnan Garden and introducing some of the attractions in the garden. The report will elaborate more about the use of VR in the tourism and education sector. It will also focus on the development of the VR Application and the software and hardware used to design the application. Along the way, there will also be explanations on the limitations of the whole process and the challenges faced. Due to the nature of the project being that of developing an application in VR, there will also be a component on user testing of the whole experience. The user experience plays a key part in the future development and improvement of the application as a whole and allows for identification of possible problems of the application. The user testing results will be included in the report alongside some feedback of the users. In conclusion, the aim of the report is to summarize the effectiveness of VR in introducing NTU’s Yunnan Garden to the masses, which can further extrapolate into the tourism and education industry in the future.
