Abstract: Tanah Air is a stop motion - 2D hybrid animated short about a series of events that unfold around a row of shophouses in Penang. The short follows the lives of Penangites over the span of two centuries, with their dwellings bearing witness to generations of hardships and triumphs. This report records the research and development of the film, including a brief look into Penang’s history with relevance to the film and the process of building the sets from scratch.
