Abstract: To meet the increasing demand for energy, the consequences of using fossil fuel have become a rising issue as the amount of greenhouse gas emitted is at an all-time high. As such, Singapore’s government are trying different approaches to reduce carbon emissions. One method for decarbonizing the economy is to use hydrogen abstracted from natural gas (methane) in a process known as catalytic decomposition of methane. This method would emit no, or negligible amount of carbon dioxide and the hydrogen produced is named as turquoise hydrogen. This study will focus on the catalyst development using LSCM with different transition metal dopants, such as Fe, Ni, Co, and Cu, through a gel-casting method to synthesize the catalysts powder. The as-doped LSCM-based catalyst’s catalytical performance as well as the carbon yield were investigated. The durability of the dopant was also investigated after going through the different experiments. The research was carried out through a series of experiments, which were then analyzed using a visual test on carbon yield to determine the catalytic performance of the doped LSCM-based catalysts. Based on the weight loss of the doped LSCM catalysts treated under pure CH4 atmosphere for 5h at 850°C by monitoring the weight changes through consistent increase in temperature. In this project, the order of catalytic performance of LSCM catalysts doped with transition metal was discovered to be Ni > Co > Fe > Cu.
