Abstract: The purpose of this project is to investigate the alignment and conductivity properties of a silicon-short carbon fibre composite material. Recent research has focused a lot on shape memory polymers, as their dual-shape capabilities give rise to exciting applications. Carbon fibre, too, has been lauded for its excellent properties especially as a reinforcement material, which is why it has been chosen for our vibration experimentation. It was found that filler alignment did improve conductivity levels, especially in the transverse direction. This compares favourably with other literature [7]. Other parameters evaluated against alignment, such as optimal vibration frequency and time interval were also explored satisfactorily. Future works can improve upon the current limitations and alternative solutions to bring this area of research on to a higher level.
