Title: Defining standards and guidelines for Chinese bibliographic records for Singapore libraries.
Authors: Ng, Hwee Miang.
Keywords: DRNTU::Library and information science::Libraries::Cataloguing and classification
Issue Date: 2000
Abstract: The results of this study could serve as the starting platform for individual libraries to define Chinese standard bibliographic formats and facilitate cooperative cataloguing and bibliographic exchange of Chinese bibliographic records within Singapore and with other countries. In view of the on-going work of the Library of Congress and participating bibliographic networks on multilingual and Chinese bibliographic issues, a review will be required at the end of 2000 or beginning of 2001, upon completion of the Pinyin Conversion Project for US libraries. Closer cooperation, information exchange and consultation among the Library of Congress, professional organisations and the major Chinese libraries in Asia and the rest of the world in the coming years will bring about truly international Chinese bibliographic standards and the reality of sharing of Chinese bibliographic databases, paving the way for more sharing of information and knowledge contained in Chinese collections and databases world-wide.
