Master's thesis, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. https://hdl.handle.net/10356/164366||Abstract:||With the development of computer science and communication technology, many new technologies and applications emerge, such as the Internet of Things, big data, cloud computing. If these technologies can be applied in all walks of life, they will greatly improve the productivity of the industry. Therefore, the concept of Industry 4.0 was proposed and the industry would like to incorporate these new technologies into the manufacturing so that it can adapt to the needs of the new era. In industrial scenarios, robots such as AGV often participate in the manufacturing process. Nowadays, any robot has sensory devices, including lidars, ultrasonic sensors, cameras, etc. to collect environmental information to complete main work. However, sensors are often expensive for AGV and robot design. When there are so many AGVs and robots in the scene, the cost of equipping AGVs and robots with a full set of sensors may be a major financial barrier to building smart factories. In addition, installing expensive equipment on moving vehicles and robots in high-risk factory environments can increase the possibility of sensor damage, malfunction and even accidents. On the other hand, most sensors, such as lidars and sonic sensors, need to be mounted on the top of or around the vehicle. When performing major tasks, their perception may be hindered by loads or objects in the environment. In view of the above issues, the purpose of this project is to develop a sensor system that is not mounted directly on the robot, collect data from these external sensors, and share it with AGV. Through this thesis, the application of Internet of Things in industrial 4.0 concept is discussed by constructing sensor network, and the theoretical and practical difficulties and challenges of industrial 4.0 are summarized. This thesis focuses on the construction of sensor networks and the Internet of Things. The main work is on the following aspects: This thesis, firstly, investigates the current theoretical progress of industrial 4.0, summarizing some existing smart factories, summarizing the elements of smart factory implementation; Next, by using an existing open source tool, ROS system, this thesis builds a sensor network to make it conform to some of the characteristics of industrial 4.0. Then, this thesis uses the RMF to try to integrate the built sensor network and visualize part of the data.
