Abstract: China has made some progress over the last two decades to promote the internationalisation of the Chinese Renminbi (RMB). International sanctions on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine have been helpful to its efforts. But policies within China’s own financial system will continue to constrain the RMB’s global influence.
