Tuition and the development of flexibility in five- and six- years old preschoolers.

Abstract

This study examined the effects of preschool tuition on 49 5- and 6-year-old preschoolers’ Cognitive flexibility. On the Alternate Uses Test (AUT), preschoolers were verbally asked to give as many uses as they can for five common objects. No significant age and tuition main effect as well as interaction effect was found. On the Flexible Item Selection Task (FIST-4-item), preschoolers were shown a set of four pictures and required to select two cards that matched each other on one dimension (selection 1) and then select a different pair of cards that matched each other on another dimension (selection 2). There was significant main effect for age and for tuition as well as a significant age and tuition interaction.
