Abstract: Beauty, while having been accused of being an over-determined, vague and even outdated concept, remains more important than ever at the center of literature’s incantations and imagination in the contemporary age. The thesis explores how principles of beauty pattern the narrative fabric and form of the chosen novels, which in turn enact within the reader’s reception the drama of awakening consciousness.
