Abstract: The world today is experiencing a rapid movement towards urbanisation resulting in increased energy demand, carbon emission and other harmful impacts on our environment. Faced with these challenges, the concept of Smart City is introduced. It aims to promote sustainable development, enhancing the quality of life and improve the current energy infrastructure. The United Nation (UN) introduced 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in 2015 as a guideline towards sustainable future development. Carbon emission reduction is one of the key areas under the SDG framework. This paper discusses some of the problems found in Singapore’s carbon emission and feasible solutions for Singapore to reduce carbon emission.
