Abstract: The surging demand for electric vehicles (EVs) has spurred the development of new charging methods that are more convenient, efficient, and safe. Wireless power transfer (WPT) technology offers a promising alternative to traditional plug-in systems, as it enables EVs to be charged without the need for cables. However, the efficiency and performance of WPT systems depend on the type of coupled coils used, which can vary widely among different manufacturers. This raises concerns about interoperability and standardization. To address these issues, this study aims to measure the coupling coefficient of different coupled coils and evaluate their performance under misaligned conditions. Specifically, three groups of coupled coils will be tested individually under varying degrees of misalignment. The results will be compared to determine which combination of coils is the most practical and effective for EV charging. Considering the application in manufacture, this report maintains the same material usage and floor area of the coil in comparison. The results show that the interoperability between the circular coil and DD coil is not ideal, and the circular coil is more suitable as a unified coil for manufacture than DD coil. The findings of this study will provide valuable insights into the design and optimization of WPT systems for EVs, as well as inform industry standards for coil types and alignments. By improving the interoperability and efficiency of WPT systems, this research can contribute to the wider adoption of EVs and the reduction of carbon emissions.
