Abstract: The future of Multiple Remote Tower Operations will require Air Traffic Controllers to take on heavier workloads, more than what they are currently experiencing. As communication is a vital link between ATCs and Pilots, a solution is required to aid future Air Traffic Controllers. A solution to this is a Digital Tower Assistant. A Digital Tower Assistant in a form of Chatbot can help automate some processes in the tower and act autonomously on behalf of Air Traffic Controllers. The advancement in Natural Language Processing and structured procedures in Air Towers can make this a reality. This paper presents a novel architecture to create an intelligent hybrid system to semantically understand and act on Pilots’ messages for landing sequences in non-emergency situations. The proposed system uses Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers and Knowledge-based expert system. Future work can be explored to scale the application of the system to other phases of flight.
