Abstract: There are five general senses that allow human beings to see, hear, feel, smell and taste. Unlike a living being, the electronic product that we have been using regularly in our life can’t differentiate between the situations happening in a particular event unless a certain specific sensor is deployed in the product. The aim of this project will be looking into two different types of sensors. The first sensor is a vision sensor known as C328 VGA camera and is capable of capturing images happening in the event and by going through image processing. Application like color detection of an object, video streaming and motion capturing can be achieved. The second sensor is an optical proximity sensor, which will measure the distance between the source and the target through emitting a beam of infrared radiation. The work will include the research, design and development of a suitable proximity sensor that has additional IR communication function. The finding and developed prototype will contribute to a ongoing intelligent cube project.
