Title: | Dynamic of container with fluid | Authors: | Wang, Zhiwen. | Keywords: | DRNTU::Engineering::Mechanical engineering::Fluid mechanics | Issue Date: | 2009 | Abstract: | Container/tank has been used widely in industries for transport of fluid as well as storage of water. Damage to storage tank due to seismic activity and construction of oil tanks have sparked off an interest in scholars and researchers to look into the static and dynamic analysis of a tank containing fluid. However, most of the studies are on cylindrical tanks, with studies on rectangular tanks far and few. In the dynamic analysis of fluid, due to the complexity of the problem, it cannot be solved manually, thus requiring highly sophisticated software, such as the finite element analysis. In this project, one out of the numerous studies on fluid-structure interaction had been done with the help of the finite element software, Ansys. The investigation into the static and dynamic behaviour of fluid in a container was mainly simulations on varying the fluid height in the container in an effort to gain some insights into the dynamics of fluid. Results for the static analysis was clear-cut and predictable with satisfactory results, however, problems were encountered in the dynamic analysis with uncertainties pertaining to the results. More would have to be done to gain a deeper understanding of the dynamics of fluid. | URI: | http://hdl.handle.net/10356/17092 | Schools: | School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering | Rights: | Nanyang Technological University | Fulltext Permission: | restricted | Fulltext Availability: | With Fulltext |
