This was an extention of AcRF Tier 2 project on Hemocompatibilization of Biopolymer Systems. In this supplemental project, we evaluated the uptake of nanomicells by blood cells. A method for assessing the update by flow cytometry was developed, Several copolymers with differing amount of a hydrophillic block were synthesized, formulated into nanomecells, and their uptake by blood cells, particularly monocytes, was evaluated. It was found that the density of the hydrophilic block as well as its apatial configuration were important in determining the avoidance of update by monocytes. Such particles are termed "stealth" particles, and are useful as carriers for cancer drugs to sloid tumours.
