Abstract: A methodology was developed for the construction of a taxonomy for a digital cultural heritage network. By comparing the features of the taxonomy with what is required of cultural networks, the findings suggest that taxonomies have clear advantages as knowledge organisation systems, particularly when user-orientation is critical, browsing is the preferred mode of information discovery and documentation practices have yet to be standardised across the institutions.
