Abstract: This project aims to address the inefficiencies of the current paper-based attendance system used in the School of Computer Science and Engineering (SCSE) at Nanyang Technological University (NTU). By leveraging Near Field Communication (NFC) technology, a web-based attendance management system was developed to streamline the attendance-taking process. Developed with the Next.js full stack framework, key features include robust role-based authentication to protect student data, multiple search functions for easy access to attendance records, automated email notifications for absentees along with attendance registration with NFC technology. Following an iterative development approach, the project successfully delivered a fully functional NFC-enabled attendance system. Looking ahead, further enhancements could include integrating a subsidiary system to manage absentee Medical Certificate (MC) records. Ultimately, this project aims to improve efficiency, reduce paper usage, and enhance user experience in SCSE lab sessions.
