In accordance with International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations or the Ballast Water Management Convention, all vessels must use a ballast water management system (BWMS) to limit the spread of microorganisms and contaminants that are not native to the area. This report will review the different ballast water treatment processes being used currently.
