This technology is able to eliminate harmful substances such as organic compounds or bacteria when it is exposed to light. In the search for the new materials with good photo-catalytic properties especially those that are effective in the visible light spectrum, the composition of Sr(Ti1-xFex)O3-δ (STFx) shows promising as it combines the advantages of small band gap energy of Strontium Ferrite (SrFeO3-δ) for visible light range and the reduction-oxidation behavior of Strontium Titanate (SrTiO3) for photo-catalytic reactions. This research project aimed to develop a novel nano-structured photo-catalyst for the application of indoor air quality control. Series of STFx composite with 0 ≤ x ≤1 was successfully synthesized using high temperature method and high energy ball milling method. Its utilization in indoor air quality control was studied through investigating its capability in decomposing chemical or organic compounds under visible light irradiation in comparison with Degussa P25. The STFx photo-catalyst showed a better photo-catalytic performance on methylene blue when it was synthesized with high energy ball milling method than high temperature method. In addition, it had better photo-catalytic performance than P25 under visible light irradiation. It effectively could decompose methylene blue in 12 hours while P25 essentially could not degrade methylene blue at the same condition. However, this novel composite appeared inactive on the degradation of acetic acid and isopropanol.
