Abstract: Human activity since the Industrial Revolution has exponentially increased greenhouse gas emissions into the earth’s atmosphere leading to climate change. With climate change increasing the frequency and impacts of extreme weather conditions, it is pivotal for affected countries to be equipped with accurate identification and measurement methods of the climatic risks posed, supporting development of appropriate mitigation measures towards its impacts. This Final Year Project (FYP) project aims to analyse gridded meteorological datasets to characterize joint occurrence of precipitation and wind extreme events in cities of Southeast Asia (SEA). By first focusing on quantifying individual weather occurrences spatially, hotspots of concurrent precipitation and windspeed extremes in SEA is identified. These joint occurrences of precipitation and windspeed extremes are also investigated to identify where these events are most concentrated to be a potential hotspot across the city(s).
